READING YOUR WORK FOR APPRECIATION

Posted by anonymous on April 14, 2011 at 1:46 PM

Reading Stephen King, one of my thriller/horror writer heroes, it would be easy to recite his words in public. His words are gold and people pay big bucks to read, hear, and view his written words. As a writer, I was asked to be included in a panel discusssion tonight on a public radio station and share one of my personal life essays. All of a sudden I feel tongue-tied, wondering if I'll orally offer my words in a way the radio audience will feel the full emotional impact of what I wrote. "War of the Worlds," by Orsen Welles captivated the radio audience, putting so much fear into people that there was a national panic with the audience truly believing aliens were attacking our country. My words are on a much personal nature, personal fears, but I still hope I can touch the audience with my much simplistic paragraph of words. I know I truly feel honored that my essay was chosen out of thousands to be read, so I'll open my mouth and try to reap the rewards, having my written words shared with the world. That's what writers dream of. Hey, I can always imagine the radio audience is sitting at home au' natural. This should cure the tongue-tied stuttering anxiety I feel now. I'll update you later.

April 15th Update-The taping went fine, awaiting radio host's program edits and airing date, and will inform you as soon as I know. I read through my essay fine, the conversation went rapidly, can't wait to hear how I sound.
